Lal Kitab - An Introduction

Lal Kitab (Hindi: लाल किताब, Urdu: لالکتاب, literally Red Book) is a set of five books, written on a branch of Vedic astrology and palmistry. The treatise is based on ancient Vedic astrology and Samudrika Shastra. The extant version of the text is written 19th century, in Urdu with a sprinkling of Punjabi and Persian in a style which is without the punctuation and sounds which are hard to understand for a layman. Poetic verses with philosophy and hidden nuances form the core farmanns or upaya (remedy recommended) of the book.It is believed to have Persian origins and has led to field of remedial astrology known as Lal Kitab remedies, that is simple remedies for various planetary afflictions in the horoscope or birth chart, which have over the years become part of the folk traditions of the region, that includes North India and Pakistan.

The names of the five set of books authored by Pt. Rup Chand Joshi, together called as Lal Kitab with their years of publication, are as follows. A copy of first book published in 1939 is preserved in Lahore Museum. :-

Vastu purusha mandala is the metaphysical diagrammatic design of cosmos on which the whole concept of Vastu Shastra is based. How To Do Mantra Japa

1) Select any Mantra or Name of God, preferably that given to you by your Guru, and repeat it from 108 to 1,080 times daily (one to ten malas).

2) Always keep your Guru-Mantra a secret. Never disclose it to anyone. It is better to stick to one Mantra only. Take a bath or wash your hands, feet, face and mouth before sitting for Japa in the morning. At other times this is not absolutely necessary. Depending on the type of palmistry practiced, and the type of reading being performed, palmists may look at various qualities of the hand, including the shapes and lines of the palm and fingers; the color and texture of the skin and fingernails; the relative sizes of the palm and fingers; the prominence of the knuckles; and numerous other attributes of the hands.
In most schools of palmistry, hand shapes are divided into four or 10 major types, sometimes corresponding to the Classical elements or temperaments.
